Inkjet compatible cartridges
The inkjet cartridges with a simple tank offers the advantage of a more economical cost per page, and allow the production process of a new compatible cartridge.

Inkjet remanufactured cartridges
Some manufacturers include the print-head on the printer and other directly on the cartridge. These latter have the advantage of a brand new printing after each cartridge replacement but the problem is twofold: the cost per page is higher and technical constraints prevents any compatible manufacturing (patent on printing circuit).

The recycling of these cartridges is the only alternative to this monopoly.
